In 1990 Japanese label Mash Records releases the Castle album plus some extra songs on
a selftitled CD. The band's music proves being very hard to play on stage. That said,
The Use Of Ashes yet creates a unique atmosphere when playing live on various
occasions. The Use Of Ashes headlines the Fast Forward Festival, accompanied by the
likes of Beck and Robyn Hitchcock, in 1995. A CD of this festival includes an exclusive
song called Shyleen. 1996 sees the band play on the Sweet Smoke Festival, alongside
Hawkwind. Fret writes about The Use Of Ashes in this period: 'The listener will be
carried away in a fairy-like dreamworld, with lyrics that can be interpret in more
than one way.' In 1995 the band finishes recordings for a new album, Fire Tree, which
is released on CD in 1996 by Italian label Mellow Records. Fire Tree brings the band
to daylight after a period of self reflection, into a musical world that has changed
significantly. The intimate and spheric songs from the late eighties are now
accompanied by modern equipment.
